My name is Dr. Jonathon Wilcke and my favorite things include poetics, prosody, descriptive grammar, rhetoric, usage, semantics, composition, documentation, pragmatics, editing, improvisation, hiking, and the saxophone. I am a scholar and teacher of writing and its components with concentrations in composition and Contemporary, 20th Century, and Modern English poetry and poetics. I’ve published two books of poetry so far and have a professional background in technical writing, editing, proofreading, arts and academic grant writing, and non-profit arts society administration.
At St. Mary’s, I teach English 200A and 200B, poetry and poetics, 20th century prose, and Romantic literature. I also work with the Learning Centre as an Academic Writing Institute instructor and a Success Strategies Series seminar leader.
I love teaching, and I love working closely with students on writing and critical thinking skills. In my classes, prepare to laugh and have fun while being challenged by my writing and critical thinking exercises and examples that connect literary study with the contemporary world.
