Students apply through the Experiential Learning division at the partner institution. They are required to present at the time of the application:
- Official nomination from StMU (Our office will provide you with this letter)
- Official Transcript
- Letter of reference issued by a faculty member of the home academic institution.
- Photocopy of passport or identity document.
- Copy of international medical insurance policy.
- Application from the partner university.
Alberta-Smithsonian
The Alberta Smithsonian Internship Program (ASIP) invites ten Albertans each year to participate in an internship with the esteemed Smithsonian Institution: the world’s largest consortium of museums located in Washington, D.C. The complex comprises several specialized museums and research centers that engage in the pursuit of information and knowledge in a variety of disciplines ranging from the arts, culture, and history to the sciences.
Application Process:

- The Smithsonian Institution’s website contains links with relevant information on internships that are available at its various museums. Please indicate the areas you are interested in and include this information in your Letter of Intent.

International Youth Internship Program (IYIP)
The IYIP is designed to offer Canadian post-secondary graduates the opportunity to gain professional experience through international development work. The objective of the IYIP is to support sustainable international development initiatives, proposed in partnership with local partner organizations, by Canadian professional associations, educational institutions, non-governmental organizations and private companies.
In order to qualify, Canadian youth must be between the ages of 19 to 30, and be post-secondary graduates, graduates of a degree or diploma program in a university, college, post-secondary school of technology, post-secondary institute or a CEGEP (general and vocational college).
Students will experience the practical application of course principles through a required Community
Service-Learning (CSL) placement with organizations that contribute to social justice and provide services to vulnerable communities.
Antirequisites: CATH 311
History 391-Public History: Memory and Method
This lecture-based course has a practicum component of 30 hours with museums, historical societies, city archives and public libraries.
Prerequisites: 6 credits in History at the senior level or permission of the instructor
Biology 451-Biological Conservation
The topics for this 30-40 hours volunteer element of the course have varied in the past, from assessing the invasion of a shrub into the Weaselhead; writing ecological text for interpretive signage at a new provincial park; collation and analysis of long term data on migrating bird phenology; determining the role of social marketing in conservation; to assessing nest cavity orientation and use by different birds.
Prerequisites: BIOL 307 or BIOL 313

Global Affairs Canada and the Chinese Ministry of Education are offering short-term scholarships to Canadians wishing to study abroad in China. Scholarships are awarded for studies, research, language studies or a combination of studies and language studies at participating Chinese institutions.
Who applies:
- Canadian students at the college, undergraduate and graduate levels in Canada
- Canadian faculty members or research staff at a post-secondary institution in Canada
- Canadian mid-career professionals who have a Master’s or PhD degree and have managerial, policy development or decision-making responsibilities

Faculty Mobility Program
The Faculty Mobility Program aims to increase the number of institutional collaborations and student exchange agreements between Canadian and foreign institutions eligible under the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP). These agreements are created between colleges, technical or vocational institutions and universities in Canada, Latin Americas and the Caribbean. The Program will award grants to teach or conduct research for a short-term in countries eligible to ELAP (CARICOM countries, Central America, Latin America, Mexico).

Canada-CARICOM Faculty Leadership Program
The Canada-CARICOM Faculty Leadership Program provides faculty or international liaison officers/managers, from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), with short-term exchange opportunities for professional development, graduate study or research at Canadian post-secondary institutions. The goal of the Canada-CARICOM Faculty Leadership Program is to support international collaboration between Canadian post-secondary institutions and institutions in the CARICOM, through professional development opportunities for faculty and staff. Faculty or international liaison officers/managers, hereby referred to as “candidates”, must be employed full-time as faculty or as international liaison officers/managers at a recognized institution at the time of application and during the entire duration of their professional development, study or research stay in Canada.
