Spring has sprung and graduation is right around the corner! For all of our students who are graduating this June, we will be hosting Runway to Grad on Tuesday, June 7th in McGivney Hall between 4:00 – 8:00 pm. This event is an opportunity for our graduands to pick up their gown, cap and hood prior to their 2022 Convocation Ceremony. All graduands should attend to ensure they have their regalia before their ceremony.
Attendees will also be asked to complete a grad survey to answer questions and reflect on their time at St. Mary’s University. There are prizes available for students who complete this survey! To help you celebrate your upcoming convocation, there will also be a photo opportunity for students to get pictures together with their friends and family.
In addition to the grad survey and providing items for Convocation, grads who attend this event can also take this opportunity to purchase a graduation frame, ring and other gift items to help commemorate this momentous occasion. The Alumni Association will be in attendance to let graduands know about all the incredible and unique benefits they will receive as alumni of StMU.
Being able to have this event this year is a big deal for both students and the University. Unfortunately, Runway to Grad wasn’t held the past two years due to COVID restrictions, and Convocation ceremonies were held virtually. Students who graduated in 2020 and 2021 had graduation boxes dropped off at their homes, which contained their parchment, grad cap and other celebratory items.
“With this year’s ceremonies being the first ones to be held in-person in two years, it feels like graduands, along with their family and friends, can really celebrate how we wish we could have over the past two years,” says Odelia Chan, Career Services and Academic Advising Officer. “This year will be a celebration for not just the hard work and dedication needed to complete a degree, but also the resiliency to do so under extraordinary circumstances.”
We are excited to announce that this year’s Convocation will be the biggest one ever – the ceremony will be held at a new location and for the first time, Convocation will take place over two days – one for Bachelor of Arts and Sciences (June 9th), and one for Bachelor of Education and Catholic Educator’s Programs (June 10th).
If you are walking the stage as a graduand at one of the 2022 Convocation Ceremonies, remember to attend Runway to Grad on June 7th in order to pick up your gown, cap and hood. Congratulations on all of your hard work!
