On Friday, September 18, 2015 close to 400 people came onto campus to enjoy our fifth annual Ghost Tour and Birthday Celebration. The sold out event took the audience throughout the haunted halls and grounds of St. Mary’s University to hear chilling ghost stories before celebrating St. Mary’s 29th Birthday with cake and fireworks. This year also marked an exciting moment for St. Mary’s as we lit up our historic Water Tower with long-time friends Frank and Jeanne Vetsch.

The Ghost Tour sees participation from St. Mary’s Drama students, alumni, and community members who work hard on performing Playwright in Residence Eugene Stickland’s script. Under the guidance of our new co-directors, Alumni Heather Young and Lindsay Tingley, these actors really embrace the spooky tales about our campus – many of them coming back year after year to perform.

Highlights from the show include a ghostly encounter with the famous Bing Crosby, a lost love trapped in the Water Tower, and a glimpse into our tunnels.

The greatest moment this year was lighting up our history in front of our Ghost Tour guests. Our Water Tower, which was built in 1921, is a heritage center for Alberta. Throughout the summer, St. Mary’s worked on restoring the historic Water Tower, which has become a symbol for the University. The tower was fitted with LED lighting, which was lit by our supporters Frank and Jeanne Vetsch. We would like to thank them for their continuing support of St. Mary’s and for lighting up our campus in this new way!
