Sacred Art Workshop: Introduction to Byzantine Iconography

image1-227x300This course introduces students to the essentials of egg tempera painting as it is used in the tradition of Byzantine sacred icons. The instructor will introduce and demonstrate each stage in the painting process and give students personal help as they learn to write their own icon.

Discussion in the course will give particular attention to the theological, spiritual and symbolic aspects of iconography. This course will provide both a solid theological and technical foundation for more advanced workshops in iconography. At the end of the workshop, students will have a completed icon to take home.
