Kara Shaw – Bachelor of Arts 2017

Greetings fellow StMU Alumni, My name is Kara Shaw and I am honoured to be your new Alumni Representative to the St. Mary’s Board of Governors. I attended St. Mary’s University from 2012 to 2017 graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Liberal Studies, concentrating in Psychology and English. While attending St. Mary’s I also worked as a library assistant at the campus library from 2014 to 2017 and as a summer student in the Advancement department during the summer of 2015 and 2016. In my final year at St. Mary’s I had the opportunity to run on the Cross-Country team (go Lightning!). During my tenure at St. Mary’s I enjoyed volunteering at events and being involved with Indigenous initiatives on campus. Upon completing my degree, I joined the Advancement team at St. Mary’s full-time as the Events and Marketing Specialist. Currently I am in my second year of law school pursuing a Juris Doctor degree at the University of Calgary.

Enough about me, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my heart felt congratulations to the St. Mary’s 2020 graduating class – well done! I know a global pandemic was not how you envisioned finishing your degree but with steadfast resolve, and no doubt with a few wifi challenges, you did it! This is an amazing achievement given the unique challenges that the pandemic presented – congratulations!
