The Lightning Women’s basketball program made its sixth consecutive trip back to championships this week and last night squared off against the NAIT Ooks in quarter finals action. The Lightning were well prepared for the game and did not disappoint. Playing some of their best basketball, the Lightning set the tone early finishing the first quarter up 16-10. A big second quarter of 24-11 gave the Lightning a comfortable lead going into half time. The Lightning continued their strong play in the second half, eventually finishing the game 76-36. The Lightning were anchored by strong play of 1st team all conference award winner Emily Wagner with 26 points, 14 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Also playing a great game for the Lightning was 5th year senior Juhee Anderson with a 20 point second half. Juhee finished the game with 29 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.
The Lightning take on a Northern powerhouse in the form of the Keyano Huskies in semi final action at 8pm tonight, Friday March 6th. The Huskies finished 2nd last season and were on top of the North conference all year, finishing league play with a 20-4 record.
