After a very close competition at the ACAC Cross Country Championships at Gold Bar Park in Edmonton on Saturday, Oct. 29, we’re excited to share that our women’s team brought home silver!

The Lightning women’s cross country team won the silver medal after a tight race against Medicine Hat College. This is the first team cross country medal in the program’s history at St. Mary’s University. Congratulations to the incredible athletes and dedicated coaches who made this victory possible and for bringing so much pride to our institution.

The scoring members of the team were Maria Fox (5th), Sydney Zissos (9th), Cadence Laplante (10th) and Elizabeth Krueger (23rd) for a total team score of 47. Philine Schmidt (27th) and Sarah Foscarini (30th) were the next two team members across the line.

Maria Fox was named to the All Conference Team, which is an honour that consists of the top seven finishers of the championship.

Sydney (5th GP) and Cadence (6th GP) were awarded as top ten finishers for the Grand Prix race series based on their strong performances in three Grand Prix races and the Championships.

The men’s team of Dan Quibell (36th) , Riley Follensbee (38th), Rowan Seerup (41st), and Jack Herron (52nd) placed 9th and put in strong performances on the challenging course.

Head Coach Donna Dixon was very happy with the team’s performances, remarking “It was great to see all of the consistent training lead to great results and a silver medal for the women’s team! We’re looking forward to Nationals in Medicine Hat later this month.”

Our lightning cross country team will be competing at Nationals on November 12th for a chance at the podium – Go Lightning!
