Microbiology, the study of bacteria, fungi, viruses and more, is often understood to be about germs which are “bad”. Students were given a common misconception about microbiology to refute in an accessible way for non-specialists. The students presented entertaining & enlightening videos correcting these misconceptions. Some were highly topical; for example, Hilary Clinton & Donald Trump argued about the value of antibiotics for the common cold. Others used cartoons or developed websites. Check out the video – who knew your food would collect fewer microbes if you dropped it on carpet rather than tile floor?
