Stephen-Buffalo1Calgary’s St. Mary’s University is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Stephen Buffalo to the Board of Governors, effective June 8, 2015, for an 18-month term.

Mr. Buffalo is a respected member of the Samson Cree Nation, located in Maskwacis, Alberta. He is a graduate of Athol Murray College of Notre Dame, Saskatchewan; completed a Business Administration program at Medicine Hat College; and earned a Bachelor of Management from the University of Lethbridge in 1998.

Mr. Buffalo began his career at Peace Hills Trust Company two days after his convocation and continued there for 15 years. Since 2013, he has been President and CEO of the Indian Resource Council of Canada (IRC). The IRC supports First Nations by working with government and industry.

Mr. Buffalo and his wife Colleen have resided in Calgary for 13 years. They have three daughters and four sons.

As a Board member, Mr. Buffalo will play a key role in shaping the future of St. Mary’s University, and will offer invaluable perspective on the University’s First Nations, Métis and Inuit initiatives.
