St. Mary’s University Lightning Athletics department has been strategic and successful in recruiting the best and brightest student-athletes from across the country and the world. Our athletes strive for excellence in their sport and are a source of inspiration, excitement and pride at St. Mary’s.
This pride extends beyond athletics and into their academic performance. Following all of the challenges of the ongoing pandemic, including online learning and gathering restrictions, we are thrilled to see that our Lightning Athletes continue to punch above their weight both on the court, on the field and in the classroom!
This past 2021-2022 season St. Mary’s University Lightning Athletics teams all had combined GPA’s of over 3.0 and an outstanding 35% of our athletes were recognized as CCAA National Scholars. To achieve the National Scholar recognition, the athletes had to have a combined yearly GPA of over 3.5 and successfully complete 24 or more credit hours.
As a relatively small school in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference and the larger Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association, StMU has shown that our student athletes are well-rounded competitors and scholars.
St. Mary’s is proud of all our athlete’s successes in the classroom, but we would like to specially recognize the below athletes for their high GPA’s during the 2021-2022 season:
