We’ve been busy while you were away
Summer doesn’t equal a break for St. Mary’s Staff and Faculty
One of the common misconceptions of working in a schooling environment is that everyone assumes that once the students leave for the summer things start to slow down. For St. Mary’s University, the summer of 2017 proved quite the opposite.
The summer started off on a bittersweet note as we at St. Mary’s bid farewell to longtime Dean of Education Dr. Linda Dudar who announced her retirement at the end of the last school year. Dr. Dudar was instrumental in helping the Bachelor of Education (Elementary) program at St. Mary’s become one of the leading programs of its kind, and her commitment to, and passion for, St. Mary’s was unparalleled.
We would like to announce that Dr. Tara Hyland-Russell will assume the role of Interim Dean of Education for the 2017-18 academic year in conjunction with her duties as Vice-President Academic and Dean.
Revitalized spaces
The campus at St. Mary’s has also undergone some changes, aimed at increasing the student experience on campus and providing our students with the best possible resources and spaces to achieve their academic goals.
Some highlights that are sure to grab the attention of our students are the new reading room featured in the library, the new-and-improved Tim’s Bistro as well as a brand new Bookstore in a vibrant new space.
To ensure that new and returning students find where they need to be with ease, we have also undergone a substantial wayfinding project that has seen directional signage and building identification signs placed around campus.
It is important that our students have the best possible post-secondary experience while at St. Mary’s and we have taken major steps towards ensuring that they are equipped with the resources, tools, and support necessary to do so.
We can’t wait for the school year to begin, and look forward to all of the special memories that are sure to be formed this year.
