Leo passed away suddenly while in Europe on a pilgrimage to Fatima and Medjugorje. Leo leaves behind his son, Michael Bunz (Fay) and his children: Adam and Kara of Calgary; his daughter Carrie-Lynn (Mark) Styranka and their children: Elicia, Angelie and Jackson of Calgary; and his daughter Joanne (Jim) Twanow of Brisbane Australia. He is also survived by his numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. Leo was pre-deceased by his wife of 55 years, Mary, as well as his parents and siblings.

Leo was born in Muenster Saskatchewan in 1936. He moved to Calgary after college and took a position in the HVAC supply industry. Leo eventually became the sole owner of Summit Engineering Sales in 1987 and worked there until he retired in 1997.

Leo was a longtime and active member of the Knights of Columbus, which is where his involvement with St. Mary’s University began. St. Mary’s is grateful to have benefitted from Leo’s generous contributions of time and talent. Leo served on St. Mary’s Golf Tournament Committee for many years, where he played a valuable role in recruiting golfers, securing sponsorships, and helping with the planning. Leo was also a supporter of St. Mary’s other events and university initiatives. He was instrumental to the fundraising campaign, which aided St. Mary’s in acquiring an Altar and Ambo. He was a friend to many of our Staff and Faculty and his kind and generous spirit will be greatly missed on our campus. Leo passed away on June 17, 2017 at the age of 81 years.
