Our new StMU CARES program officially launches today! CARES stands for Connect, Assess, Reassure, Evaluate, and Support. This is a collaborative early alert program that supports our student’s: mind, body, and spirit. This program is a person-centered way to connect our students to support and resources and address a variety of barriers to academic success.

As part of the kick-off of the CARES program, a self-referral survey has been emailed to all students today and will be available to complete until the end of this week on Friday, October 7th. This survey should only take a few short minutes to complete and will allow our CARES team, Kimberly Brocanier and Jolene Smith, to triage responses to ensure students get the support they need.

This survey is not anonymous, which will allow our team to connect with students with concerns dependent on how the survey questions are answered. Please check your emails today for your personal link to the survey. Every student who completes their survey this week will be entered into a draw to win one of four $50 gift cards for the bookstore.

Your student survey responses are important to us and will help guide future programming and resources that StMU can offer to students as part of our commitment to providing students with the ongoing support and resources they need to succeed.

Outside of these launch week surveys, students can refer themselves or connect with support resources directly. Faculty, staff and Peer Tutors can also refer students who they feel would benefit from additional support and resources. Our referral forms are located here and once a referral has been received, our CARES team will connect with the student to individually tailor resources and a plan to address their needs.

If you have questions about this new program, please contact Kimberly Brocanier or Jolene Smith by email at cares@stmu.ca or phone at 403.254.3772.
