Last week, on Friday, October 28th, 2022, Dr. Sinda Vanderpool was formally installed as St. Mary’s University’s president and vice-chancellor. The ceremony and Mass took place at the beautiful St. Albert the Great Parish in McKenzie Towne.

This marks the beginning of the next phase in St. Mary’s University’s evolution and growth. This was a historic day, as we gathered as a community and celebrated our new president, the fourth in our history and first female appointment.

A gifted and inspiring leader, we look forward to Dr. Vanderpool continuing to expand upon St. Mary’s student-centered vision of growth and success, building upon our position as a leading liberal arts, sciences, and education institution rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition that is open to all.

Thank you to everyone who was in attendance on this important occasion! Hundreds of people attended this ceremony, including treasured donors, staff, faculty and students of St. Mary’s, alumni, dignitaries, and representatives from other North American universities.
Bishop William McGrattan, Chancellor of St. Mary’s University, presided over the ceremony, which included a special mass in honour of the celebration. Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani, Alberta’s Lieutenant Governor, was also in attendance and gave a speech celebrating higher education and congratulating Dr. Vanderpool on her installation.

Dr. Vanderpool’s family also participated in the ceremony by giving readings. Her daughter, Kalin, read Ephesians 2:19-22 and her son, Jordan, gave a heartfelt speech toward the end of the ceremony.
