Last month, St. Mary’s University celebrated a significant milestone with our 2022 President’s Farewell Gala. With this being our last official event with Dr. Gerry Turcotte as our president and vice-chancellor, it was a night to remember filled with live entertainment, fun prizes and great conversation.

On behalf of the staff, faculty and students at StMU, we would like to thank everyone who attended this annual fundraising gala and showed their unwavering support for the ongoing success of our students. It is through the generous support of our donors, sponsors and community partners that the spirit of St. Mary’s continues to thrive!

Over the course of the evening, our treasured guests enjoyed three unique virtual giving opportunities: a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and wine tower raffle – making this year easier than ever to support our students and make a lasting impact. We’re thrilled to announce that at the end of the night, we collectively raised over $127,000!

Alumni and members of Dr. Turcotte’s family wowed the audience with a live performance!

This will make a big impact in the lives of our students, as the proceeds raised from these fundraising efforts will be used to support our students as they pursue their academic goals. All funds raised have been split between two incredible programs that present life-changing opportunities for our students – the President’s Circle Scholarships and the Humanities 101 Program.

In addition to fun giving opportunities, guests enjoyed touching speeches, hilarious live entertainment and music from some of our alumni, a video montage celebrating Dr. Turcotte’s legacy at StMU, and a delicious three-course meal.

To cap the night off, a stunning hand-painted portrait of Dr. Turcotte was unveiled and will join our St. Mary’s portrait collection, which includes all three of St. Mary’s past presidents and also features our esteemed and generous donor, Dr. Allan Markin.

This portrait was completed by William Downey, who has been commissioned to paint all of our past portraits. This incredibly life-like painting of Dr. Turcotte took four months to finish and is completed with archival quality materials and lightfast permanent media to ensure it lasts for centuries to come.

And of course, this incredible evening would not have been possible without our sponsors. Thank you to the following sponsors for making this fundraiser happen: Valentine Volvo, CIBC Messing Ross Advisory Group, Matco Investments, Richardson Wealth, RGO, and Mountain View printing.

As well, thank you to everyone who supported our fundraising by donating to our auctions and raffle items. And lastly, a big thank you to our amazing volunteers who gave their time to help ensure this was a night to remember!
