The UPASS, your unlimited City Transit pass, is back! In previous years there was a transit sticker applied to StMU ID cards that entitled all full-time students access to transit services (buses and trains) for the Fall and Winter terms. This year, we are continuing with digital passes through the My Fare App. No waiting in line to get your sticker, no forgetting your student ID card at home, and a convenient digital pass that is securely assigned to you on your mobile device through your StMU university provided email address.
StMU’s UPASS will be available on Calgary Transit’s My Fare app. My Fare is a mobile ticketing app that allows you to use the UPASS directly from your mobile device. My Fare is available on the majority of iOS or Android devices installed with the current or previous major version operating system. Downloading the My Fare app is easy and convenient from Google Play and Apple Store.
The Fall 2022 UPASS will be valid from September 1st to December 31st, 2022, and the Winter 2023 UPASS will be valid from January 1st to April 30th, 2023. Watch the video below on how to create an account on My Fare and get your UPASS.
Full-time registration status is 9 credits in a Fall or Winter semester. If you have an approved reduced course load, you may also be considered full-time with 6 credits in a Fall or Winter semester.
No, you may not opt out of the UPASS. The UPASS fee is compulsory for full-time students, and $160 is automatically applied to each Fall and Winter semesters.
No. Because your registration status can change from semester to semester, the UPASS will be issued each semester: Fall (September – December) and Winter (January – April).
You are eligible for the digital UPASS in any Fall and/or Winter semester that you are considered a full-time student. For example, if you are full-time in Fall but not in Winter, you are eligible for UPASS in Fall but not Winter.
After the add-drop deadline of each semester, if you have dropped to part-time status, you are no longer eligible for the UPASS and the fee will be removed from your My.StMU self-service account balance. Calgary Transit will be notified to deactivate your MyID account associated with your @stmu.ca email address.
After the add/drop deadline, you may not make changes to your registration except for requesting course withdrawals. If you were registered as a full-time student by the add/drop deadline, you are eligible for the UPASS and have paid for the semester, even if you withdraw.
UPASS is valid for one semester (ex. Sept 1 – Dec 31 for Fall, Jan 1 – Apr 30 for Winter). A semester UPASS must be activated before riding on transit and can be activated on or any time between September 1st and October 19th (January 1st and February 22nd for Winter). Activate your UPASS by September 1st/January 1st to get the most out of your full semester’s access.
My Fare is a mobile ticketing app that allows you to purchase and use fare products such as regular monthly and day passes, airport boarding pass, single ride tickets and UPASS directly from your mobile device.
My Fare is available on the majority of iOS or Android devices installed with the current or previous major version operating system. The application is not supported on non-Android or non-iOS devices. Older versions of software may not be supported.
After downloading My Fare, create a MyID account using your @stmu.ca email address, then select the product you wish to use – UPASS. The product will be electronically delivered to your My Fare ticket wallet after a 24–48-hour delay. The Fall 2021 UPASS will be available for your use from September 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022. The Winter 2022 UPASS will be available for your use from January 1, 2023 to April 30, 2023.
Yes, you need to create a MyID account using your @stmu.ca email address. If you create an account, you can stay signed in on your mobile device, but you’ll be asked to enter your account information every 30 days.
You can edit your profile by going into your MyID account. Once you are signed into MyID, go to account –> edit profile –> change your email and then update it.
You MUST activate your ticket or pass prior to boarding a Transit vehicle or prior to entering a fare-restricted area. Be ready to scan your UPASS at the onboard validator when boarding a vehicle or show to a Calgary Transit official upon request. Please have your StMU ID card available as a verification tool if needed. Your UPASS can be found in your Ticket Wallet on the main screen of the My Fare application.
A valid UPASS on My Fare displays a bar code and a moving visual ticket. On a bus, you will scan the bar code on the lower screen of the onboard validator. If asked, you can show the ticket to a Calgary Transit bus driver or peace officer for visual validation. While CTrains don’t have onboard validators, you can use the app to ride the CTrain.
Each UPASS includes a visual validation bar as well as a unique barcode that may occasionally be scanned by Transit officials as part of an inspection process. Please present your mobile UPASS for inspection, if requested.
UPASS is only valid for one semester at a time, based on your full-time registration status. Unused passes past their validity period will appear as EXPIRED and will no longer be accepted for travel nor will they be valid for refund.
A Mobile UPASS does not need cell phone or WIFI services to activate and display a ticket. You do need connectivity, however, to download the UPASS, which must be done prior to boarding. If you lose cell phone service after activating and boarding the vehicle you will be able to activate and display the UPASS from the ticket wallet.
You are responsible for having a mobile phone in good working order and usable prior to boarding and through the duration of your trip. If your mobile phone is inoperable, it is expected that you would use some other payment method for your trip.
If you lose your device or purchase a new one, you can transfer any valid, non-expired UPASS to a new device. To do so, login to your myID account from your new device and your active UPASS will be displayed. Please note that passes on your old device will become invalid. My Fare users are allowed three device switches over a six-month period. Please note that pass transfer is not possible if you do not have a City of Calgary MyID account, so you must create one with your @stmu.ca email address for access to the UPASS.
It looks like the My Fare app from the City of Calgary with a valid UPASS in your Ticket Wallet.
If you have an Android or iOS compatible device, are a full-time registered student, you can then download the My Fare app to be able to access your UPASS ticket.
