CALGARY – A respected academic leader with more than two decades of service to St. Mary’s University, Dr. Jocelyn Williams has been appointed Interim Vice-President Academic. Having served as Chair of Humanities and, most recently, Dean of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Williams brings exceptional academic leadership, sound judgment, and a deep understanding of the University’s mission, culture, and Catholic Liberal Arts identity. Throughout her tenure, she has guided the University through periods of growth and transition while earning the trust and respect of colleagues across campus.
Dr. Williams holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours, a Master of Arts, and a PhD in English. Since joining St. Mary’s more than 20 years ago as an English Literature professor, she has become known for her thoughtful leadership, collaborative approach, and commitment to student success. Her ability to communicate with clarity, lead complex initiatives, and build confidence in others has distinguished her throughout her academic career.
“There has been significant change in senior leadership this past year, and it is important to provide clarity without delay,” said St. Mary’s University President Dr. Scott Morrison. “With more than 20 years of service to St. Mary’s and an outstanding record of leadership, Dr. Williams is exceptionally well positioned to provide the stability and continuity our academic community needs. She is a thoughtful leader, an excellent communicator, and someone who consistently demonstrates care for both people and our institutional mission.”
“I have worked at universities all of my adult life, but St. Mary’s captured my imagination and won me over whole-heartedly,” said Dr. Williams. “I had always hoped to find a home at a small Catholic university, and my mentors on the East Coast encouraged me to apply. As you can tell, I have been hooked ever since. This is a remarkable place where students, faculty, and staff are united by a shared commitment to our mission. I am honoured to help lead the University through this next chapter and continue strengthening the academic experience for every student.”
Dr. Williams will begin her 13-month term as Interim Vice-President Academic on August 1, 2026.
