It is with profound sadness that we at St. Mary’s University mourn the passing of the Most Reverend Frederick Bernard Henry, the Seventh Bishop of the Diocese of Calgary and our former Chancellor. Bishop Henry’s steadfast dedication to the Catholic faith and his tireless advocacy for social justice left an indelible mark on our university, our community, and the broader Church.
As Chancellor of St. Mary’s University from 1998 until 2017, Bishop Henry was a guiding light, championing the transformative power of Catholic education. His wisdom, integrity, and passion for forming the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—helped shape the values that remain at the heart of our institution today.
Beyond his contributions to St. Mary’s, Bishop Henry’s fearless leadership and compassionate service enriched the lives of countless individuals across the Diocese of Calgary and beyond.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who were blessed by his ministry. May his legacy inspire us to carry forward his vision of faith in action.
Service and obituary details are being finalized and will be posted to the McInnis & Holloway website in the coming days.
