Camden MacDougall

Hailing from Calgary, Alberta, and raised in the small town of Langdon, I grew up in a close-knit community where the streets were my first sports field. With not much else around, my brother, friends, and I would play every sport we could, especially basketball. My passion for the game started back in grade 5, fueled by those fun-filled days with friends. Although it wasn’t until grade 8 that I began competing, basketball quickly became more than just a pastime.

My journey hasn’t been without its challenges. One of the hardest obstacles I’ve faced was a knee injury that resulted in chronic inflammation, keeping me off the court for five months. That recovery period was tough, as it delayed my time with my teammates at St. Mary’s and tested my patience. Through consistent rehab and a commitment not to rush my return, I managed to overcome it and come back stronger, with a renewed focus on the game I love.

As a player, I admire Kyrie Irving not only for his incredible skill but also for his calm and grounded mindset. His ability to perform with such heart and talent is something I strive to emulate. His calmness in overcoming adversity and his perspective on the game and life are qualities I deeply respect and hope to bring to my own game.

For younger athletes, my advice is simple: never underestimate the power of a strong mind. Mental training is as crucial as physical practice. Embrace setbacks, stay level-headed, and keep confidence in yourself. Training your mind to remain positive when situations seem challenging creates a peace that will enhance your performance and resilience.
