Ivet Hidalgo

Originally from the Philippines, I moved to Canada at a young age and grew up surrounded by basketball, thanks to my dad’s influence. Although I was introduced to the sport early, it wasn’t until I was about nine that I began to take basketball seriously and compete at a higher level. The thrill of the game and the adrenaline rush it provides have always been a driving force for me.

Off the court, I’m a dedicated homebody who enjoys cooking and baking meals, as well as spending quality time with loved ones. Balancing basketball with other aspects of my life requires effective time management and a clear set of priorities, which I strive to maintain daily.

Before each game, I stick to a specific pre-game ritual: my hair is always styled in two Dutch braids secured into a low bun, and during warm-ups, I wear a special necklace gifted by my parents. I only remove it during the last team huddle before tip-off.

My advice to young athletes is to prioritize heart over height. Embrace the present moment and remember that everything happens for a reason. Don’t dwell on the past or fret about the future—focus on making the most of now and let your passion drive you forward.
