My journey in basketball began with a rigorous training and preparation routine that kicks off each Sunday with meal prepping for the week. During the season, I commit to an hour of shooting and dribbling practice daily, weight lifting 2-3 times a week, team practice each night, and competitive games on Fridays and Saturdays. This structured approach helps me stay at the top of my game.

Throughout my university basketball career, I faced significant challenges, including tearing both ACLs and both lateral and medial menisci in separate years. These injuries sidelined me for two seasons, but with relentless hard work, perseverance, and unwavering support from my strength and conditioning coach and family, I’ve made a triumphant return to the sport I love.

One of my greatest sources of inspiration is my strength and conditioning coach, Olivia. A former Division 1 soccer player and now an entrepreneur in Calgary, Olivia has been a tremendous motivator. Her encouragement extends beyond physical training; she teaches me to be present, celebrate every achievement, and strive for personal growth both on and off the court. Her influence has profoundly shaped my perspective on university sports.

Community involvement is a cornerstone of my values. In Halifax, I volunteered with a U14 women’s basketball team for four years, mentoring young athletes and sharing my passion for the game. Participating in the ShoeBox Project with my university team, which supports homeless and at-risk women across North America, was another memorable experience that reinforced my commitment to giving back.

A fun fact about me is that I grew up in Costa Rica and was once a competitive gymnast before dedicating myself to basketball. For aspiring athletes looking to play at the post-secondary level, my advice is to always be the hardest worker, both on and off the court. The countless hours of training, mental preparation, and dedication are crucial for success. Additionally, practice patience with yourself—results may not come immediately, but perseverance will eventually lead to rewarding outcomes.
