Interesting fact: Convocation ceremonies are deeply rooted in tradition, tracing back to the earliest universities of Medieval Europe. From the colour and length of sleeves of the gown, to the design of the cap and the colour of the trim of the hood, each detail has significance. The turning of the tassel ceremony, which is a relatively recent tradition, sees students move the tassel from the right side of their mortarboard to the left, symbolizing the transition from student to graduate.
