Can the Lightning strike gold again? Excitement is at an all-time high at St. Mary’s University as both our men’s and women’s basketball teams have secured their places in the 2025 ACAC Championships for the third consecutive year. This incredible feat is a testament to the dedication, perseverance, and talent of our student-athletes and coaching staff. For a small institution without an on-campus gym, our teams continue to defy expectations, proving that passion and commitment can drive excellence in the face of challenges.

Throughout the season, the Lightning teams have demonstrated remarkable resilience, showcasing exceptional teamwork, skill, and determination. Both teams have battled through intense competition, executing strategic plays and displaying unwavering sportsmanship to earn their spots at the prestigious ACAC Championships.

The men’s team will be heading to Caronport, Saskatchewan, while the women’s team competes in Edmonton. Both squads have their eyes set on the ultimate prize—the ACAC Championship titles. From February 27 to March 1, they will face the best teams in the conference in what promises to be an electrifying and high-stakes tournament filled with unforgettable moments.

History in the Making

On Friday, February 14th fifth-year guard Caleb Jipp made history, scoring his 1,910th ACAC regular-season point, surpassing Jason Damery as the all-time ACAC leading scorer. The milestone was a bittersweet moment for the Lightning, as Caleb’s incredible career comes to a close. After Saturday’s senior night and final regular-season game, he finished with an astonishing 1,944 career points.
