“St. Mary’s atmosphere within the classroom buildings, the friends I made throughout the time there, and the academic rigor, ensured my future success in all my post graduate adventures…”

Kevin Legare

Kevin Legare

Kevin’s post-graduate journey has been both diverse and fulfilling. After graduating from STMU with a BA in English and a BEd, he has enjoyed teaching a variety of subjects, including ELA, Drama, Art, Religion, a Behavior Program, and currently, CTF Wood and Metal shop. Achieving his goal of earning a Master of Education in 2018 from Gonzaga University with a 4.0 average was a significant milestone. The supportive atmosphere at St. Mary’s, the friendships he formed, and the academic rigor all contributed to his success in both his career and his graduate studies. The professors’ unwavering support and guidance played a crucial role in helping Kevin realize his full potential.

Kevin fondly recalls his involvement in various clubs and student council at STMU, along with the memorable experiences and lasting connections he made with faculty and staff. These experiences have instilled in him a desire to give back to the STMU community. To prospective students, Kevin advises getting involved with the school and meeting people with similar interests. He encourages staying on campus to study and making the most of university life by approaching new activities with enthusiasm. University can be challenging, but friends, both new and old, can make the journey easier and more enjoyable.

“In addition to the obvious (knowledge and research skills), St. Mary’s University provided me with an intimate education… This experience has prepared me for the environment I should expect at the graduate level, which is likewise based around small and intimate discussions among peers.”

Thomas Wong

Thomas Wong

Thomas Wong has set his sights on continuing his education after graduating from St. Mary’s University in 2024 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. His next step is to pursue a Master of Arts in History at the University of Calgary. Depending on his passion and capabilities, he might continue his studies and work in history at the postgraduate level. If not, he believes the skills and knowledge acquired through his education would be valuable in fields related to policy work. The intimate educational environment at St. Mary’s, where he developed personal connections with professors and fellow students, has prepared him well for the graduate-level discussions and research he will encounter.

During his time at StMU, Thomas was actively involved in the Dungeons and Dragons club and Lightning Track and Field. The former provided him with a means of social connection over a shared interest, and he plans to continue playing tabletop roleplaying games throughout his life. The latter helped him stay active and see how StMU connects with other universities in Alberta. For prospective students, Thomas recommends taking advantage of the small class sizes and engaging in conversations with professors. He emphasizes the importance of understanding professors’ expectations and seeking their guidance, which is more accessible in StMU’s intimate setting. This personal interaction, he believes, offers invaluable wisdom and support that might not be available at larger institutions.
