Lucas Barlow

Born in High River, Alberta, I was raised with the belief that nothing is given—everything is earned. My love for basketball began when I joined my first competitive team at age seven, coached by my dad, who was a talented player himself. Growing up with his guidance gave me a strong foundation in the game and an early head start.

One of my proudest achievements was earning back-to-back MVP titles in high school. But more than any individual award, fulfilling my dad’s dream of playing post-secondary basketball has been one of my biggest milestones. He always dreamed of playing at this level, and now, he says he’s living that dream through me.

The road hasn’t been without its challenges. I’ve had to overcome recurring ankle issues, relying on ankle braces to stay in the game, and I’m now working to strengthen them for better support.

Another tough setback was losing to our rival team in the zone finals, which kept us from making it to provincials. That loss fueled my determination for the next year, where we swept our rivals 4-0 in the series and secured our spot at provincials.

I’m motivated every day by my dad and my girlfriend. My dad’s dream pushes me to go further in the game, and my girlfriend is there for me through the highs and lows, encouraging me to keep pushing forward. Together, they keep me focused on my goals and grounded in the journey.
