Spring showed up in style at St. Mary’s University — not just with warmer weather, but with the joyful sounds of our University Choir filling McGivney Hall on April 9th. Over 100 guests gathered for a night of music, community, and feel-good vibes, all thanks to the amazing talent of our choir.
The evening’s lineup had something for everyone — from the moving “Music of Life” to the uplifting “When the Light of Morning,” and even a crowd favorite: “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers. It was the perfect way to shake off the winter blues and step into the new season.
What makes the St. Mary’s Choir so special is its welcoming atmosphere. Reflecting our Open to All values, the choir is made up of students from across campus, passionate community members, and even staff — including our very own VP of External Relations, Lisa Laskowski, who lent her voice to the performance.
Leading the ensemble is the talented Sarah McLean, whose energy and direction brought each song to life. She was joined by accompanist Tim Korthuis, whose musical support added depth and warmth to the performance.
Iliana Airey, a first-year student and member of the choir, at St. Mary’s, shares her experience:
“I was encouraged to join the choir because I really love making music! My favorite part of the choir was the satisfaction and joy of making music together as a community and sharing beauty through song. “When the Light of Morning Breaks,” was most definitely my favorite number of the concert to perform.”
Events like this remind us why the arts matter — they bring people together, spark joy, and let talent shine. Big thanks to everyone who helped make the night a success. If you missed it, don’t worry — you can catch more entertainment and fun at our upcoming Mary’s Festival on September 13th. A day full of performances, food, and fun games for all!
