Dr. Gayle Thrift
Associate Professor
Dr. Thrift received her doctorate in Canadian history from the University of Calgary in 2005. Her primary area of research examines church-state relations during the early Cold War in Canada. A second area of research analyzes turning points during Alberta’s interwar years; this work is featured in a series of publications on historical biography and commemoration. Inspired by an experiential learning course she developed, Dr. Thrift also researches the pedagogy of public history.
Teaching at St. Mary’s University since 2006, Dr. Thrift understands the importance of cultivating an engaging and supportive learning environment for students. Her innovative teaching approaches make history come alive and highlight the myriad ways a History degree prepares students for their careers after graduation.
