Dr. Miles was awarded her EdD with a specialization in Cirriculum Design from
the University of Calgary in 2023. She recently joined StMU as an assistant
professor of Indigenous Education. Passionate about creating learning
opportunities that are inclusive, engaging, and culturally relevant, she draws on
her own experiences and research to support future educators.
In her talk Dr. Miles will demonstrate that reconciliation is meant to be
inclusive…and a positive experience for all. Yet, one of the most overlooked
aspects of reconciliation is the inclusion of all. In an effort to prevent individuals
becoming a “wave of resistance”, the Transformational Indigenous Praxis Model
will be presented in the healing symbol of a Medicine Wheel with the intent of
making yourself an “imperfect friend,” instead of being a “perfect stranger” (Dion,
2007). In this hands on talk, identity, land acknowledgements, Alberta Education
Teaching Quality Standard #5, Alberta Education Leadership Quality Standard #5
will also be explored.
